The National Anti-Crisis management will create the Museum of Free Belarus

Belarusians keep a huge amount of documents and artifacts that are of historical and cultural value for New Belarus. Documents related to the 2020 elections, letters and pictures of political prisoners, leaflets, posters, flags and other protest paraphernalia, film and photographic documents. All this and much more is documentary evidence of the most important historical events.

We understand that collecting and storing such items in Belarus is now extremely dangerous. Some of the items are secretly kept in the houses of free Belarusians, the other part has been taken out of the country. It is important to preserve our history; therefore, we are announcing the launch of a new project — the Museum of Free Belarus.

At the start of the project, the NAM announced a collection of museum items related to the protest movement in Belarus in 2020−2021 to launch a temporary exhibition of the Museum, as well as create digital copies of these items for the museum’s website. All information about people who submitted information about their items through the @NAUsupport chatbot will remain anonymous if they so choose. The NAM is ready to ensure the safe collection, temporary storage and safety of items and their copies.

The temporary exposition of the Museum of Free Belarus will be organized in Poland (with the subsequent mandatory transfer of exhibits to New Belarus), and we will also launch the website “Museum of Free Belarus”.

The NAM has sent a request for support to its project to the International Committee of Memorial Museums in Remembrance of the Victims of Public Crimes (ICMEMO) of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).

The creation of the Museum of Free Belarus has already been supported by the Belarusian Rada of Culture and the Belarusian Sports Solidarity Fund. We call on all democratic forces and all free Belarusians to take part in the creation of the Museum.

Together we will preserve our historical memory!
